Another Multiple Podium Effort Earns Carlson Third Place Championship Finish in PRO 2 and PRO 4; Birth of His First Child Punctuates End-of-Season Weekend
ELK RIVER, Minn. September 5, 2018 – A second-place and third-place finish in the sport’s premiere class at the 49th Annual World Championship Off-Road races in Crandon, Wisconsin, once again gave Andrew Carlson a multiple podium weekend in the Lucas Oil Midwest Short Course League. The pair of top finishes in the PRO 2 ranks gave Carlson enough points to secure third-place in the year end championship standings; he earned the same year-end standing in PRO 4, despite having his weekend cut-short due to mechanical issues.
The end-of-season, east versus west showdown in Crandon, brings added intensity and competition as several top west coast drivers such as Brian Deegan, RJ Anderson, Kyle Leduc and Bryce Menzies from the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series are added to the mix.
The heightened competition however didn’t slow Carlson, earning the double podium in PRO 2 and coming oh-so-close to nabbing the win in the AMSOIL Cup Challenge where the very best of PRO 2 and PRO 4 racers battle for ultimate off-road supremacy. Holding down second, Carlson was charging on the leader only to be taken out by another competitor.
While the year-end results fell short of Carlson’s goal of a PRO 2 championship, he and the entire Carlson family were blessed with an even bigger win just shortly after the Crandon dust settled. Early Monday morning, Andrew’s wife Courtney gave birth to their first child, Dallas Andrew Carlson.
“Racing is a passion, but nothing can compare to the feeling of bringing a new life into this world,” said Andrew. “Our hearts are full…we love this little man so much.”
While the entire family and team will take time to celebrate the birth of the next generation Carlson Moto racer, they’ll also regroup, relax and then begin preparation for next season.
“I know we have all the pieces in place to win it all,” said Andrew. “We have the right personnel, the right equipment, the best sponsors and the right chemistry to make it happen. Obviously, I’m going to take some time to enjoy being a new dad, but there’s also a part of me that can’t wait to get back behind the wheel. Next spring can’t come soon enough.”
