Double Victory Fuels Best Weekend Ever For Carlson Moto

Andrew Carlson Dominates TORC Round 9 with PRO Light and PRO 2 Wins

ELK RIVER, Minn. August 15, 2017 – Flag-to-flag victories in PRO Light and PRO 2 punctuated an emotional and memorable week for Andrew Carlson as he stormed the all-new technical Red Bud, Michigan track with precision, speed, and guts.

Carlson’s commanding Round 9 performance in TORC: The Off-Road Championship Series, also earned him the Vision Wheel “Bad Mofo” award, given to the driver who exhibits the most tenacity, heart, and championship creed on the day. It was the second time Andrew received the award this season.

It had already been a whirlwind week for Andrew Carlson, having just gotten married the weekend prior. With emotions still running high, the Carlson Moto team was eager to unleash their Atturo tire equipped trucks on the recently completed Red Bud track, which many drivers described as the most technical track on the TORC Series tour.

“We know how much work it takes to build a track like this,” said Andrew, referring to his hometown TORC Series track at ERX Motor Park in Elk River, Minnesota. “The crew here at Red Bud did an awesome job…extremely technical tracks like this are my favorite. In some ways its similar to ERX…it’s always changing and no two laps are ever the same.”

Those technical attributes of the Red Bud track played right into Andrew’s favor as he qualified second with both trucks, giving himself an advantageous starting position for the land rush start. From there, Andrew hammered down and never looked back, winning both classes in flag-to-flag fashion. The PRO 2 win was especially impressive given it was his second win in just three PRO 2 races this season. The PRO Light win was his first of the season.

Unfortunately, Saturday’s success was followed by a string of tough-luck mechanicals on Sunday. Overcoming an early race miscue in PRO Light, Carlson was running in third and looking to gain still more ground until a cooling line failed, forcing him to pull off the track. The bad luck demons continued in PRO 2 where Carlson quickly rocketed from his 8th place starting position to second, passing more drivers than any other PRO 2 driver on the weekend. It was looking apparent Andrew was ready to nail down yet another podium finish, but hard contact from behind ruptured an oil-cooler and ended his bid.

Despite the disappointing end to the Red Bud weekend, for Andrew Carlson, his family, and the entire Carlson Moto crew, Saturday’s double win capped an emotional and happy time.

“We’ve been racing as a family for many years,” said team owner Chris Carlson, “Saturday was one of the most exciting and fulfilling days we’ve ever had at the race track.”

The team will now make preparations for a return to Crandon, Wisconsin, September 1-2 for Round 11. Until then you can watch Carlson’s incredible back-to-back victory effort from Red Bud via on-demand streaming-video found at the official TORC Series
