Triple Podium Weekend is Punctuated by Carlson Passing Clinic

Oppressive Heat Doesn’t Slow Down Carlson Motorsports as Andrew Collects Three Podiums in Front of Record Hometown Crowd at ERX Motor Park

ELK RIVER, Minn. July 17, 2018 Carlson gave hometown fans plenty of reason to cheer with a triple podium weekend at ERX Off-Road National presented by Polaris in Elk River, Minnesota July 13 and 14. The hot and steamy weather didn’t deter fans from coming out in droves, and Carlson gave them a show, especially during Saturday’s PRO 2 final, where he overcame two flat tires and put on an absolute passing clinic.

There have been plenty of changes this season within the short course off-road racing community, but one thing that has remained consistent is the continued growth and ever-increasing speed and skill of Andrew Carlson. Entering the season with his sights set on a PRO 2 championship, Carlson joined the PRO 4 ranks as well, putting added pressure on the fast-rising star in the Lucas Oil Midwest Short Course League.

Cleary, Carlson thrives on pressure. On Friday, Andrew throttled down for a second place finish in PRO 2 and a third place in PRO 4 behind the legendary father/son Greaves duo. He then followed up his double box finish with a second place in Saturday’s PRO 4 final. Yet it was his back of pack charge in Saturday’s PRO 2 main event that produced Carlson’s most impressive driving display of the weekend. While it failed to produce another podium finish, it clearly demonstrated he has fast become one of the elite drivers in the series.

“We came in as the top qualifier,” said Carlson referencing Saturday’s PRO 2 final, “but I got two flat tires almost immediately. I had to hot pit twice and that put me a lap down and at the back of the 12-truck field.”

While Carlson could have easily been content to save his equipment and look to battle another day, he instead pushed even harder and caught the leader in the closing laps. Crossing the line in second, he remained a lap down, but the competitive grit and skill he displayed sent a clear message to the competition as the season reaches the midpoint.

“This thing is an absolute rocket,” said Carlson referring to his PRO 2 truck after the race. “The guys nailed the set-up, and I’m already looking forward to the next race.”

Andrew will have to wait a few weeks before that happens as the series takes a mid-summer break before heading to the Bark River International Raceway in Bark River, Michigan, August 10-12.
